Parish Councillor

I moved to Poppleton in 1990 from my native Lincolnshire so this village has been my home for over three quarters of my life. It was an idyllic place to grow up – quiet and safe but close enough to the city centre and with excellent transport links to get there and back! After having – and raising – my own child in the village, I got involved with POPS as a dinner lady and, very shortly after, as a playworker (later Manager) of PopSOC.

Just over a year ago I took over the village newsagent, Cardland, which I run with my husband and my son. Through my life as a parent and a child carer I already knew several families from the village but have been extremely touched by just how people have accepted us and we have made many new and wonderful friends already.

It is an honour to serve on the Parish Council.  My family and I have lived in both Upper and Nether Poppleton over the last 30 years and most of us are still here! The village has been – and continues to be – such an important part of my life that I am delighted to be able to play a part in maintaining its fantastic amenities and make sure it remains an idyll – just four miles out of the city!
