UPPER POPPLETON PARISH COUNCIL
VOTING RESULTS ON NEW POND PROPOSAL
The Council in their review of the Village came up with an innovative proposal to build a wildlife pond on Chantry Green to create an additional feature of interest.
Considerable planning work was undertaken, but before any final decision was taken the Council decided to put this project to a whole village (Nether and Upper) vote so that all members of the population could have a say. The Council decided that, to progress the concept, they would require a two thirds (66%) majority in favour of the pond being built.
The closing date for votes was 17th April 2023, and the votes were collated and counted on 18th April by an independent arbitrator.
The voting figures were as follows :-
Total votes cast 308
Votes for 137 (44%)
Votes against 171 (56%)
AS THE VOTES FOR THE PROPOSAL DID NOT REACH THE REQUIRED 66% THE PROJECT WILL NOT BE PURSUED.
As a footnote it was noted that amongst the persons voting for the project, 42 had volunteered their services to help maintain and develop the pond and the Council thanks them for their offers.
Stuart Robson, Chairman.
